Revolution / Forradalom (2016)

In 2016, Hungary commemorated the 60th anniversary of the country's 1956 uprising against Soviet rule.  The artist participated in the memorial exhibition with his apeirographic montage "Revolution / Forradalom" paired with the artist statement that follows.

As Petőfi wrote, the spirit of the people “is itself fire”, and the wild flames that are the revolution, arise spontaneously from that exquisite thirst for liberty intimately known by all oppressed people.  The national colour flames--wild, chaotic, yet organized in their own way--are the embodiments of the spirit of the revolution and the revolutionary.  While the dark threads forming near the centre represent the oppressive regime's restorational and retributory aspirations.

"Revolution / Forradalom" was on display at the Toronto offices of the Consulate General of Hungary for four months and purchased by the Hungarian Government along with several other exhibited works.

The exhibition was featured in Hungarian-Canadian media and its success was praised the following year at the Consular Reception held during the high-level diasporic visit by Hungary's Minister for International Cooperation.
